FAMOUS SEAFOOD RESTAURANT NOT PART OF DEFUNCT CAR COMPANYThere is no truth to the rumor that at one time, Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks was the site of island's first auto dealership. While a baby blue Hudson sedan was once spotted fishtailing down the old dirt road that led to the old oyster factory back in the 1940's, our name came from the gentleman who knew a good shell fish spot when he saw it.Back in the roaring 20's, J.B. Hudson Sr., bought the oyster factory originally built in 1912 - and started a family business and a tradition. If you've eaten in the Oyster Factory Dining Room at Hudson's on the Docks, you were right in the spot where it all began! In 1995, J.B. Hudson, Jr., who had taken over the operations from his dad, added shrimp to the operation and finally, in 1967, figuring he had enough to go around opened the 95 seat Hudson's Seafood House. Seven years - and 80 seats later - Brian and Gloria Carmines, transplants from Long Island, New York via Atlanta, purchased Hudson's and a new family tradition began. Hudson's has always been a family affair, for both owners and customers. When the Carmines took over, Brian spent the first six months as a chef while the rest of the family cleared tables, took orders, and maintained the friendly atmosphere islanders - and now visitors - had to expect at Hudson's. Today, Hudson's on the Docks seats 345 people on a typical night, brings the island's finest seafood to the tables of over 1000 guests. |
